Biomarker discovery in rheumatoid arthritis patients by MS-based synovial fluid protein profiling

In this study researchers examined patients with either erosive rheumatoid arthritis or nonerosive rheumatoid arthritis using synovial fluid protein profiling through a combination of abundant protein immunodepletion, 2-dimensional strong cation exchange/reverse phase liquid chromatography with electrospray ion trap mass spectrometry, and data analysis for relative quantification. This study discovered several candidate biomarkers which were subsequently validated via multiple reaction monitoring MS-MS in patient sera.
