Aromatics hydrogenation over supported platinum catalysts: The influence of sulfur on the kinetics of toluene hydrogenation over Pt/Y-zeolite catalysts.

In this paper we report some experimental results with Pt/Y-zeolite catalysts, using the hydrogenation of toluene as a model for aromatics hydrogenation in hydrotreating. The hydrogenation of toluene was studied under conditions close to realistic industrial conditions. The findings include a complex temperature behaviour with a maximum in the reaction rate close to 325 degrees C. The pressure dependence of the rate with respect to toluene and H-2 was found to be sensitive to the level of sulfur in the liquid feed.
