Assembly call: The 1D self-assembly of tube-forming NDI-lysine amphiphiles in water is described. Nanotubes formed from an acid or ester give nanotubes with small inner diameters of 4-5 nm, whereas the corresponding amide coils into nanotubes with diameters ranging from 100-200 nm (see TEM images). Spectroscopic measurements indicate the presence of highly ordered, homogeneous structures with significant π-π interactions. Copyright © 2011 WILEY-VCH Verlag GmbH & Co. KGaA, Weinheim.
