摘要：

In this note we examine the decay of intensity with distance of earthquakes originating in the southern part of the Aegean, offshore Egypt and in the Eastern Mediterranean regions, events chiefly with epicentres at sea, which have caused concern and occasionally some damage in Lower Egypt, particularly in Cairo. Also we derive an empirical formula for the assessment of the surface-wave magnitude of crustal and intermediate depth earthquakes in the region.
