摘要
Retrofitting of Engineering marvels/ Structures is very important for preservation of history of mankind. There are various methods available to repair/retrofit the structure depending on type of failure. It was observed that the old structures made up with hard materials like marble, stone etc. which withstand centuries without any sign of failure. But soil underneath the structure is changing day to day due to change in presence and location of water and other physical factors around the structure. This may lead to failure of structure. Pin-pilling is one of the most efficient and economical methods out of several methods available to retrofit the soil underneath the foundation. Piles having diameter less than 30 mm are considered as pin piles. Due to some limitations it is difficult to insert pin piles under the foundation. This paper deals with the study of exact location of insertion of pin piles around the vicinity of existing foundation. A physical model was prepared in lab to simulate the site conditions in which soil is prepared with its natural density and loaded with hydraulic jack and effect of edge distance (Distance of center of pile from edge of foundation) is analyzed as X/B ratio and a notable increase in bearing capacity of soil was observed.
