Structure of 2-(carboethoxy-cyano-methylen)-o-methoxyphenyl-4-oxo-1,3-thiazolidine

The reaction of the amines with 2,4-bis (carboethoxy-cyano-methylen)-1, 3-dithioethane yields the thiazolidones, The structure of 2-(carboethoxy-cyano-methylen)-o-methoxy phenyl-4-oxo-1,3-thiazolidine, C15H14N2O4S, has been determined from X-ray diffraction data. Crystals are orthorhombic, space group: P212121; a = 7.410(1)Angstrom, b = 11.969(2)Angstrom, c = 17.036(2)Angstrom; Z = 4. The crystal structure is stabilized by van der Waals forces. There is a close van der Waals contact in packing between C5--H5...N1 (N1...H5b 2.549(8)Angstrom). The rings in the molecule are essentially planars. There are no intramolecular or intermolecular hydrogen bonds.
