摘要
The Tocqueville Foundation brought together intellectuals and civil society actors from both sides of the Atlantic at the Chateau de Tocqueville on September 17 and 18, 2021 for Conversations on the Future of Democracy in America. At a time when America was the scene of an invasion of the Capitol on January 6, what remains of the American democracy whose exemplary wisdom Tocqueville praised? Should we see in the turbulence of the last presidential election a revolutionary upsurge such as Tocqueville's contemporary France had experienced, or a sign of the exhaustion of American democracy and the collapse of the American people's confidence in its values? To what extent does the American crisis herald similar difficulties in Europe?
