In the present work, effects of tungsten substitution on the microstructure, dielectric constant, dielectric loss and polarization in barium strontium titanate ferroelectric ceramics have been investigated. Samples of compositions Ba0.8Sr0.2Ti1-x WxO3 (x = 0.0, 0.05) were prepared by solid state reaction method. The dielectric measurements were carried out from -60 degrees C to100 degrees C at 1 kHz, 10 kHz and 100 kHz. X-ray diffraction analysis reveals the formation of single-phase perovskite tetragonal structure. The present work concludes that tungsten substitution in BST at titanium site changes lattice parameters and tetragonal strain. This results in the change of curie temperature, dielectric constant and dielectric loss. P-E hysteresis loops were recorded and the remanent polarization and coercevity have been determined.
