摘要
This essay serves as an introduction to a special section of Small Axe on Caribbean in/securities. It begins by offering a threefold insight into the concept of “in/securities”: securities and insecurities are produced as spatially localized and historically contingent; the orthographic innovation of in/securities focuses on the relational production of security and insecurity; and creative practice is a means through which we can understand the many forms of agency required to negotiate between security and insecurity. The essay goes on to illustrate this concept through a substantive analysis of Erna Brodber’s novel Nothing’s Mat as a fractal narrative of gendered in/securities in the Caribbean. © Small Axe, Inc.
