QueueWe: An IoT-Based Solution for Queue Monitoring

Internet of Things allows people's everyday objects to be connected to the Internet and to each other, which gives them the ability to communicate between themselves and with the end users. This allows such objects to contribute to the improvement of the accomplishment of tasks such as: environment monitoring, people's health monitoring, natural resources management, and many other activities. This way, this work designs, implements and evaluates a solution for queue monitoring. This solution used as its first use scenario the University Restaurant (UR) of the Universidade Federal do Rio Grande do Norte (Federal University of Rio Grande do Norte - UFRN). The goal was to inform the restaurant's users the best times to go to the UR in order to avoid queues, consequently making better use of their time. To achieve this goal, a prototype of the solution was developed involving sensors, connectivity, a mobile application and an IoT platform.
