Substance Abuse - Addiction - Violence: Interconnections, Risks, Prevention

There is a close relationship between substance abuse and violent behavior that is characterized by cue situations, enhanced risk perception and evaluation, and reduced aggression inhibition. One of the most inspiring models concerning the interconnection of substance abuse and violence is the 13-model. Hereby the factors instigation, impellance, and inhibition are considered concerning the interconnection between the substance user and the risk situation. Until today, there are first promising programs for the prevention and treatment of substance induced violent behavior. These programs, e. g. TAVIM, should be regularly integrated in substance abuse treatment programs.
