摘要
The development of functionally graded aluminum matrix composites by centrifugal casting was discussed. Aluminum matrix composites reinforced with ceramic particles exhibit lower wear rate than pure aluminum or aluminum alloys. Centrifugal casting was demonstrated to be effective in redistributing reinforced particles in the aluminum matrix composite. The centrifugally cast composites exhibited a greater volume fraction of reinforcement particles and higher superficial Rockwell hardness, in their external zones than the internal zones. The process of centrifugal casting is beneficial as it reduces notably the corrosion speed in external zone of the FGM in the Al-5 wt.%B composite while it enhances the composite hardness on the external casting zone.
