Seed production ability of accessions of the Paspalum genus

摘要
The objective of this work was to determine the phenotype variability of the physiological ability of seed production in the accessions of different species of the Paspalum genus in the edaphoclimate conditions of the central region of the Sao Paulo State. A randomized block design with three replicates was used. The characteristics main flowering time and the physiological differentiation for seed production ability were determined. The harvested seeds were seeded in another field trial and also submitted to a germination test under controlled temperature, light and humidity conditions for the determination of their germination capacity and initial plant vigor at field conditions. From the 215 evaluated accessions, 1.86% did not established at field conditions; 2.33% did not flowering; 12.10% yielded seed with cariopsis, but non-viable; and 83.71% yielded Viable seeds and presented conditions to be spread by seeds. From the latter group, 82.04% presented reproductive habit in the summer time (from October to March) and 17.96% reproduce habit in the wintertime (from April to September). Only P, modestum and P. vaginatum did not show any physiological differentiation for seed production.
