A Model of the Campus Card System Based on Information Architecture

Campus Card is one of the smart card applications. The goal of the Campus Card System (CCS) which runs on the campus network is to provide users with all kinds of campus services supported by the campus cards. Nowadays, the CCSs are popular in China. However, most of them are application-centric and have difficulty in utilizing the information resource and refining knowledge. In view of this, the solution based on Information Architecture (IA) is put forward in this paper. Firstly, it is shown that the existing systems have trouble when utilizing the information resources by the evolution of CCS in China. Then both the IA and CCS are common in some areas such as motivation, purpose and functions. Moreover, the information needs of CCS are identified by analyzing the system business processes. At last, the information-centric model of CCS is proposed and discussed in detail according to the realization processes of IA. As a result, it is believed that the CCS solution based on IA is feasible and promising.
