Matching final focus to distributed radiator target requirements with skew quadrupoles

摘要
We demonstrate that ion-beam elliptical focal spots can be rotated with skew quadrupoles, by arbitrary angles, to map appropriately onto annular rings at either end of distributed-radiator heavy-ion fusion targets. The rotation is accompanied by an increase in the area, a variation in the ellipticity, and a shift in the axial location of the beam focal spot, all of which are small enough that they may be acceptable.
