摘要
The performances of PEFCs operated at low humidity have been greatly improved by the use of catalyst layers containing SiO2 particles (SiO2-CLs). The highest performance was obtained in a cell with SiO2-CLs for both the anode and the cathode, i.e., at 0.7 V. 30% RH. and 80 degrees C, the current density was 2.7 times larger than that without SiO2. It was found that the use of the SiO2-CLs increased the water content, resulting in the reduction of the ohmic resistance and the enhanced effectiveness of the Pt catalyst. The promotion of the back-diffusion of generated water from the cathode to the SiO2-containing anode certainly contributed to the improvement of the cathode performance. (C) 2011 Elsevier B.V.
