Prenatal diagnosis of palatal teratoma by 3-dimensional sonography and color Doppler imaging

The prenatal diagnosis of head and neck tumors can be challenging. However, accurate diagnosis is essential to ensure optimal antepartum and intrapartum care because proper airway management in these circumstances may be crucial for neonatal survival. Teratomas are the most common fetal tumors. Depending on the location and size, a teratoma can carry a mortality rate of up to 100 % in cases in which the mass impinges on the airways. I We report a case of a palatal teratoma in which the prenatal diagnosis, which facilitated management decisions, was accomplished with 3-dimensional (3D) sonography and Doppler studies.
