Health risks and potential drug abuse and drug dependence are scientific known side effects of pharmacological neuroenhancement (pNE) with prescription drugs and drugs of abuse. Purpose of this study was the psychometric evaluation of the new and up to now little evaluated Neuroenhancement Attitude Scale (NEAS) concerning students' pNE use. An online cross sectional study was conducted. Analysis was based on a German student sample (n = 787). The prevalence of pNE was 3.4 % (n = 27). Above the effects of age, gender, caffeinated beverages, and alcohol the NEAS explained a significant amount of variance of pNE use. The definition of specific cut-off points has to defer until later because of overlapping distributions. Further developments of the NEAS are recommended. The NEAS could be a useful tool for the early identification of an intervention need and for the development of directed prevention.
