SCIENTIFIC PRODUCTION OF RESEARCHERS LINKED TO FACULTIES OF COMMUNICATION AND INFORMATION SCIENCE AND INTERDISCIPLINARY RELATIONS BETWEEN THE FIELDS

We analyze interdisciplinary relations between communication and information science, considering articles written by researchers of information and communication' faculties, since this scientific production were indexed in Scopus. In order to do such analysis, we do an exploratory and descriptive research with a basic nature, and a quantitative and qualitative approach. Bibliometric and scientometric methods helped us to identify the relations between such areas. The analysis considered 438 articles indexed in Scopus of authors affiliated to communication or information science' faculties, retrieved with a specific search strategy. In addition, if an author of other area wrote an article as co-author of researchers of these faculties, the scope considered such article. In order to understand the relationship of these scientific fields, we proposed categories to analyze interdisciplinary. Finally, we considered keywords, methodologies and research techniques present in those articles, as a way to identify relationships between communication and information sciences. From this analysis, we identified relations between those sciences. Since we considered international scientific production, it is possible to provide a global scenario of such areas' interdisciplinary. Education and librarianship research are the areas most related with communication and information sciences. We believe this research points out potential uses of bibliometric and scientometric research to study interdisciplinarity.
