A unified synthetic approach to the basiliolides/transtaganolides is outlined herein, along with studies illustrating the feasibility of the strategy with respect to the total synthesis of basiliolide B. This work lays the foundation for chemical synthesis of an emerging family of Thapsia metabolites. (c) 2008 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.
