Genetic and non-genetic factors affecting the litter traits in desi and crossbred pigs

Reproductive traits are one of the important economic traits of litter bearing animals like pig. The success of swine enterprise is largely dependent on the size of litter at birth and the number of pigs reared successfully up to weaning. But reproductive performance of indigenous pigs. is low compared to exotic breeds. Hence, exotic germ plasm is introduced into indigenous base to improve the productive and reproductive performance. The present study was undertaken to study the comparative performance of indigenous and crossbred pigs with respect to the reproductive traits such as litter size at birth and weaning and litter weight at birth,and weaning.
