The structure of RhMO4, M=Nb, Ta, and Sb

摘要
The structures of the three ternary rhodium oxides, RhMO4 M = Nb, Ta, and Sb, have been refined by Rietveld-type analysis of combined powder neutron and X-ray synchrotron diffraction data. The oxides are isostructural and adopt a disordered rutile type structure, with a = 4.70186(8), 4.6971(2), and 4.61289(6), c = 3.01685(6), 3.0303(1), and 3.10721(4) Angstrom, and x = 0.2999(3), 0.302(1), and 0.3070(3), for M = Nb, Ta and Sb respectively. The M and Rh atoms are statistically distributed in the 2(a) site. The structure of RhNbO4 and RhTaO4 suggest there is a strong M-M interaction resulting in a contraction of the c/a ratio and in the low value of x, that is absent in RhSbO4.
