摘要
The backscattered electron image (BEI) by SEM was used to the best advantage to analyze the surface of aluminum foil. A quantitative method by image analysis of the BEI was found to analyze the factors affecting the features of the surface. Those factors are oil pits, squarish depressions containing iron and minute depressions caused by squarish particles. It was found that oil pits are the dominant factor negatively affecting the surface finish and the minute depressions affect the surface quality by about one-tenth that of oil pits. It was also found that the amount of the oil pits increased as the rolling speed or the rolling oil viscosity was increased, downgrading the surface finish remarkably. The relationship between the minute depressions and the rolling oil viscosity were established, while the relationship between the roll marks and the rolling oil viscosity remained unsolved.
