Micronutrients intake in students from primary and secondary school who attend the dining hall

摘要
A preliminary investigation was carried out to evaluate macro and micronutrients intake in groups of different ages and sex from the population of school children in Soria. Data were collected by means of a seven day dietary questionnaire of food intake. The results of the survey were compared with Spanish recommended dietary allowances (RDA) for each group. In relation to micronutrients, the intake of most vitamins was appropriate but estimated consumption of magnesium and iron was inadequate for some individuals. The percentage of subjects with magnesium intake under dietary recommendations increased with age and iron intake also showed deficiencies specially in girls from 10 to 19 years. This people may be at risk of suffering deficit of these important micronutrients. The conclusion of the present study suggests a need for reflection on the nutritional education of the general population.
