The role of internal mechanical stresses in dislocation motion stimulated by magnetic field

摘要
The dislocation motion stimulated by a magnetic-field pulse in NaCl crystals is found to be associated with internal stresses. The magnetic field changes the states of point defects and dislocation cores. The defects retain their new states after the magnetic field is turned off, which facilitates the dislocation motion. Presumably, the state of point defects is susceptible to magnetic field because of the nonequilibrium occupancy of the energy levels, which, in turn, is caused by internal strain.
