Towards a new engineering education policy for South African further education and training institutions: the development of exit learning outcomes

摘要
South African Further Education and Training institutions offer a range of engineering education programmes. However, there has developed a distinct need to review these to remain relevant to South African industry. A wide range of national key stakeholders were invited to participate in the writing of the new engineering education policy proposal with a view to making the programmes acceptable to the world of work and higher education. This Task Team on Engineering Education has mapped a way forward through a redesigned further education and training engineering education programme within specific issues. These include: the need for quality engineering education for all, the needs of the disadvantaged and the broadening of the Further Education and Training curriculum for entry into the world of work and higher education This paper targets the presentation of the new engineering education draft policy for Further Education and Training institutions in South Africa, and describes the ten expected learning outcomes for Further Education and Training engineering education. This paper also analyses quality assurance issues, the implications for teaching and learning as well as listing the suggested teaching strategies.
