摘要
Introduction: Oral health is primarily linked to an individual's overall health, self-esteem. Currently, dental medicine has to consider the diversity of the dental restorative materials. The extent to which they provide opportunities for the mechanical aesthetic, phonetic and biological imperatives is subordinated in their qualities. The emergence of the modern ceramic materials, adhesive methods, and new technologies has increased the interest for all ceramic systems in dentistry. A facilitating technological environment has developed in recent years through the progress of research in medical simulation and virtual reality techniques, and the development of Web 2.0 collaborative authoring and social networking tools. The aims of this paper are to provide an overview of recent clinical advances of all ceramic systems. Methods: A literature review on the topic was performed. The initial review was of PubMed for English-language studies published from 2010 to 2015, using the search terms "all ceramic dental restorations" and "all ceramic systems". Secondary literature searching was then performed. It included conference abstracts, books and online publications as well as papers in journals. Results: The review suggested that the emergence of all ceramic systems transformed the aesthetic dentistry. All-ceramic restorations are the desired material for indirect restorative dentistry according to patients' oral health concerns and treatment needs. The recent development of high quality all ceramic systems, along with new various dental cements has increased the all ceramic dental restorations' resistance. Conclusions: The recent developments in all ceramic dental technology follow the rapid diversification of equipment and materials available for computer-aided design/computer-aided manufacturing (CAD-CAM) of ceramic prostheses, the use of polycrystalline zirconia coping and framework materials. Clinical data for all-ceramic systems is becoming increasingly available, and results exist for many commercial materials, providing guidance regarding clinical practice.
