Studies of nonlinear optical characteristics of IR crystals for frequency conversion of TEA-CO2 laser radiation

A comparative experimental analysis is carried out of the second harmonic generation, absorption, and surface damage threshold in nonlinear Te, ZnGeP2, GaSe, AgGaSe2, and Tl3AsSe3 single crystals pumped by pulses of a TEA-CO2 laser. For the ZnGeP2 and AgGaSe2 crystals, a significant increase in conversion efficiency is demonstrated for the CO2 laser pulses shortened by means of a simple optical device-a plasma shutter.
