Stability of a Nonlinear brake system at high operating speeds

摘要
The dynamics of a nonlinear car brake system is examined based on a realistic model in connection with a linearization about a stationary operating state. The rotating brake disc is approximated by a rotating ring with two brake pads modeled as point masses which are in contact with the rotating ring. Each pad is viscoelastically suspended in axial and circumferential direction and loaded with a friction force. Two contact models are introduced and incorporated in the system. The instabilities responsible for brake noise evoked by internal resonances are presented. Several parameter studies are discussed, which show the sensitivity of the brake stiffness tuning and the brake force on the dynamic stability of the nonlinear brake system.
