摘要
Loss of function after fractures and dislocations of the elbow joint often result in severe problems for both the patient and the accident compensation company. Return to activities of daily life and work could become difficult or even impossible. The reduction of the earning capacity might reach up to 30 percent. Arthrolysis is an established procedure with good results regarding improvement of function of a posttraumatic stiff elbow joint. The choise of procedure - arthroscopic or open release techniques or closed distraction arthrolysis - requires strict indications. Pathomorphologic features influence the surgeons decision on the approach. The patients postoperative commitment in terms of active cooperation influences the results of the procedure significantly. A complication rate up to 27 % has to be expected.
