An Advanced Design of MAC Layer for Smart Metering in Internet of Things

摘要
In view of the shortcomings of the existing Internet of Things protocol MAC layer, an advanced design scheme of MAC layer is proposed, which improves the channel access scheme of the MAC layer and optimizes the CSMA/CA algorithm. The design idea is as follows: in the aspect of channel access, it improves the superframe structure of traditional IEEE 802.15.4 MAC layer protocol, expands beacon service, saves the superframe consumption of network reference time synchronization and cross-layer metering upstream message transmission, improving the efficiency by 10% in the same application area when the network node number is huge. And the scheme adds priority mechanism and virtual carrier sense on traditional CSMA/CA algorithm, which reduce the average frame conflict rate by about 30%, reduces the average energy consumption by about 50% and improves the throughput by about 70%. Finally, the optimization effect is verified by using NS3 + MATLAB simulation platform. The simulation results show that the performance of this design is better than that of the existing schemes.
