Computer applications are classified into four stages. The corresponding four types of computer systems are called data processing systems, information systems, knowledge based systems, and intelligent systems. Advocates three features of future medical expert systems: to simulate the performance of a group of human experts; to deal with chronic diseases; and to deal with several diseases simultaneously.
