摘要
Since the first proposal of quantum dots in 1982 by Arakawa et al., various efforts have been devoted to realizing quantum dot devices, such as lasers, detectors, single photon emitters, single electron transistors and quantum computing devices. Moreover, the concept of the quantum dot has brought up various new aspects in condensed matter physics. In this paper, we give an overview of quantum dot technology with emphasis on nanophotonic devices. The current technology enables us to obtain the highest lasing performance (i.e., threshold current and dynamic properties) in semiconductor lasers. Here we show our recent results on nanophotonic devices: high speed operation of the quantum dot lasers without any temperature controller between 20C and 70C and the first demonstration of a single photon emitter at telecommunication wavelength for quantum cryptography communication. Quantum dot devices are promising for future broadband, low power and secured information technologies.
