Syncope resulting from autonomic insufficiency syndromes associated with orthostatic intolerance

This article provides a brief overview of autonomic disorders, their pathophysiology and management. Extensive investigations of these disorders has shown that they represent only one aspect of a broad, heterogeneous group of disturbances of the autonomic nervous system that can result in hypotension, orthostatic intolerance, and often syncope. Ongoing studies should help to define better the spectrum of these disorders and to elaborate better diagnostic and treatment modalities.
