Kinetics of hydrogen evolution on tungsten carbide (WC) electrode was investigated in 0.1M, 0.5M and 1.0M H2SO4 + 0.5M K2SO4 solutions in the temperature range 291-328 K. Steady state polarization and ac impedance spectroscopy were used to determine the electrode activity. The curves obtained are characterised by one Tafel section with the slope about 90 mV. The mechanism of hydrogen reactions was discussed. It suggested that the proton discharge determines the rate of the process.
