Electric field enhancement in silicon slotted optical strip waveguides and microring resonators

摘要
Recently, a novel waveguide structure confining light at levels that cannot be achieved with conventional waveguides in a very thin low-index domain was proposed. These slotted waveguides are composed of a low-refractive-index region embedded between two strips of a high-index material. Here we present a three-dimensional finite-element analysis of such a structure taking into account the finite length of the waveguides. Also, we investigated the conditions for obtaining similar light confining effects in microring resonator geometry.
