The paper emphasizes the importance of assessing seed vigour to improve seed quality with a view to increasing the resistance of crops to drought. The solution is to use seed vigour tests that are internationally validated according to ISTA, or simply a simple tightening of the criteria for placing of seeds on the market. If sand, which is also allowed for the germination test, will be used in the ISTA germination test instead of filter paper, the differences between the analyzed seed lots would be higher and explicit. Another possibility is to routinely introduce automated systems that are able to distinguish differences between the seed lots more precisely.
