摘要
Rate performance of metal-ion batteries is determined by the kinetics of diffusive and charge transfer processes in composite electrodes, which can be quantitatively described using various experimental and modeling approaches. Advanced electrochemical methods and experimental techniques allow differentiating between various contributions to the over potential and capacity fading at the individual particle, composite electrode and full cell levels. Apart from the practical significance for battery performance optimization, electrochemical kinetic studies provide a deeper understanding of intercalation mechanisms, including ionic transport through interfacial layers and the patterns of phase boundary propagation in phase-transforming particles.
