摘要
SiC-TiC composite materials with 0 to 92 wt% TiC have been prepared by gas pressure sintering up to 2180 degrees C. Homogeneous nearly fully dense microstructures, with a grain size between 5 and 10 mu m, have been achieved for TiC mole fractions of more than 0.26. Both bending strength and fracture toughness showed maxima at a TiC mole fraction of about 0.5 with values of about 500 MPa and 5.7 MPa m(0.5) respectively. Vickers hardness was observed to be independent of the composition but was decreased with increasing load.
