The global city: introducing a concept and its history

In this paper the author examines first some of the key theoretical and empirical elements of the concept of "global cities", followed by a brief history of the evolution of the literature on cities in the global economy. Section three is a mole in-depth discussion of the organizing hypothesis of the global city model. Sections four and five discuss two specific features: the question of place in a global economy and the question of city-to-city networks in domains other than the economic.
