OVERCOMING IDEALIZATION: A DIFFICULT PATH. Overcoming idealization during treatment a very troubled process in situations of a lack of narcissism involves a step-by-step passage. The psychoanalyst's subjectivity is important in introducing a breach in the patient's idealization: a breach that could permit the slow transformation of an exaggerated idealization. This process of change is born in the analyst's mind, in his countertransference, and it renders the patient capable of getting back his own resources and acquiring new functions.
