摘要
The surface profiles of four different spherical-aberration-free aspherical lenses are given as conic curves, namely a hyperbola and an ellipse. Historically known as Cartesian ovals, these lens profiles can be obtained from Fermat's principle. Alternatively, we have derived the surface profile from Snell's law. The derivational procedure is physically more appealing and mathematically elegant. The surfaces profiles of two more spherical-aberration-free aspherical lenses, which cannot be represented by conic curves, are given in terms of a semi-analytic formula. Examples of the lens profiles are given.
