Improvement of the STI of multiple loudspeakers in long enclosures by architectural treatments

摘要
This paper describes a series of scale model measurements for improving the speech transmission index (STI) of multiple loudspeaker public address systems in long enclosures by architectural treatments. It is found that. when absorbers are near the middle of two loudspeakers the overall STI is higher than that of absorbers along the ceiling; diffusers are effective for increasing the sound attenuation along the length and decreasing reverberation, and thus inn easing the STI; and a carefully designed combination of various architectural treatments can significantly improve the STI. A model for calculating the acoustical indices of multiple loudspeakers and an index for evaluating the effectiveness of a treatment in a simple manner are also established.
