摘要：

The article focuses on the economic sanctions deployed by the United States after the declaration of martial law in Poland in 1981. These measures represented the 'tip of the iceberg' of a broader discussion on how to address the increasing East-West economic interdependence. Through sanctions, the United States faced this issue and tried to change the rules of economic competition among Western countries.
