Seed yield, water use and water-use efficiency of sunflower (Helianthus annuus) genotypes under irrigation and nitrogen variables

摘要
A field experiment was conducted during spring season of 1994 and 1995 on loamy-sand soil at Sirsa, to study the response of sunflower (Helianthus annuus L.) genotypes to irrigation and nitrogen levels. Sunflower hybrid 'MSFH 8' had significantly higher seed yield, higher water use and water-use efficiency than composite 'EC 68415C'. Highest seed yield (1,861.0 kg/ha) was recorded with irrigation scheduled at ID : CPE ratio of 0.9. Lowest yield was obtained when the crop was irrigated at ID: CPE ratio of 0.3. An increase in irrigation frequency increased the seasonal water use but decreased the water-use efficiency. Application of 120 kg N/ha, being at par with 160 kg N/ha, resulted in higher seed yield, water use and water-use efficiency than ret of the nitrogen levels.
