摘要
Leptospirosis is an emerging major Zoonotic disease of animals and man and is of significant public health importance. It is one of the incriminating agents for abortions, jaundice etc., in animals causing heavy economic loss to livestock farmers. Incidence of leptospirosis among farm animals was reported earlier by many workers in India (Rajasekhar and Nanjaiah, 1971; Rao and Keshavamurthy, 1982; Singh and Uppal, 1983; Murunalini and Ramasastry, 2000). In view of abortions in organized livestock farms and human health hazards appearing as jaundice, a study from 1996 to 2001 was undertaken to assess the seroprevalence of Leptospirosis in livestock of Nellore area in Andhra Pradesh in order to develop an epizootological map so that necessary precautionary can be advocated to contain the disease.
