Validation with the MARS and TASS/SMR codes based on experimental results of a pressurizer safety valve line break at the SMART-ITL facility

The system-integrated modular advanced reactor (SMART), which was developed by Korean Atomic Energy Institute (KAERI), has unique characteristics because of its integral type geometry. A series of design basis accident tests have been conducted using the SMART integral test loop facility to assess the performance of the safety systems in SMART. Using these tests data, system analysis codes have been validated. In this paper, validation with the MARS and TASS/SMR codes was performed for the test scenario of pressurizer safety valve line break conducted at the SMART-ITL (Integral Test Loop), which is an integral test facility for SMART. The two codes gave a reasonable prediction for the primary pressure and break flow. However, the water level in the reactor pressure vessel was under-predicted slightly. (C) 2020 Elsevier Ltd.
