Effect of a ketimine compound on the structurization and protective properties of epoxy coatings

摘要
We studied the effect of ketimine, which is a product of the reaction between triethylenetetra-amine and cyclohexanone, on the structurization and protective properties of epoxy coatings on a wet steel surface in 3% sodium chloride solution. We established that the partial replacement of the TETA amine curing agent by ketimine in the EP-5123 epoxy composition retards somewhat its structurization but, at the same time, improves substantially the protective properties of coatings based on it owing to the chemical bonding of water molecules on the surface of the metal and the inhibition of underfilm corrosion. Epoxy compositions modified by ketimine can show considerable promise for the protection of metalworks and reservoirs under conditions of high humidity and after their hydroabrasive treatment.
