Concise mechanism of terahertz wave emission from mesoscopic crystals of Bi2Sr2CaCu2O8

摘要
The terahertz (THz) emission mechanism in Bi2Sr2CaCu2O8 with an external magnetic field is studied theoretically. A radiation power formula for a small-size sample is proposed. The total power is proportional to the square of the number of superconducting layers and the frequency. Under the small-size limitation, the angular distribution of the power is similar to that in the dipole radiation. The THz power output is in the same order of magnitude as the experimental ones. By analyzing the spectra, a series of size-dependent intrinsic frequencies are observed. We show that the radiation power is enhanced when the supercurrent frequency tuned by the external current resonates with the intrinsic ones.
