Crack propagation from different sharp notches was observed especially in low cycle fatigue tests under 4-point-bending with constant amplitudes. Cracks were measured using the replication method. Two materials with different microstructures were examined. For description the stress intensity factor for cracks from notches by Smith/Miller [2] and the crack closure formula by Newman [3] were used. Nominal stresses greater than the yield stress were corrected with an elastic-plastic assumption. The crack closure of small cracks was included in an extension with d(0)* [4]. The description with the SIF gives good results when a plasticity correction is used.
